Enjoy the best of both worlds — Rural and Urban — in one of the various Effingham County communities such as Guyton, Marlow, Meldrim, Rincon, or Springfield, just to name a few.
Effingham County, created in 1777 from the Colonial parishes of St. Matthew and St. Phillip, is the state’s fourth oldest county. Its name honors Lord Effingham, an English champion of Colonial rights. In 1733, a group of Protestant colonists, the German-speaking Salzburgers, followed James Oglethorpe and later settled much of the region.
Effingham County neighbors many fast-growing communities in the area and provides a lifestyle a bit away from but convenient to the hustle and bustle. Effingham County homes can be found in a variety of neighborhoods (both gated and un-gated), on large pieces of land, or on secluded waterfront property. The county offers a wonderful school system, great recreational opportunities as well as a quieter, slower pace of living. Homes in Guyton, Rincon, and Springfield are surrounded by nature, and although a rural lifestyle is easy to find there are also thriving downtown commercial centers.
Effingham County is nestled between the Ogeechee and Savannah Rivers just north of Georgia’s first city, Savannah. Effingham is steeped in tradition and heritage as one of Georgia’s original counties, yet is keeping pace with the most modern amenities, solid planning and an eye on a bright future. Effingham County boasts one of the fastest growth rates in the State of Georgia, while maintaining a home town atmosphere with all the conveniences of a rural suburb.
